5/12/08: USC Libraries Interlibrary Loan has joined the RAPID Consortium! What does this mean to patrons? Faster delivery of articles from journals, periodicals, and other documents, many within 24 hours. RAPID is an organization of libraries from across the globe decidated to fast, cost-effective, and innovative resource sharing. the Science Citation Index of Web of Science at USC Libraries e-resources is back till 1900!

I am pleased to announce that the Science Citation Index of Web of Science at USC Libraries e-resources is back till 1900! It means when searching the web of science, you can search the database from the the beginning of it. Please go ahead and give a try, and I believe you will enjoy your information research more than before.

USC Libraries: Dissertation Delivery Services

Non-USC Dissertations and masters theses not available electronically through Proquest can be ordered through Interlibrary Loan. The staff will try their best to borrow the hard copy or purchase a photocopy of the item directly from the institution through ILL channels. By the way, when they receive a borrowing dissertation request, the staff search Proquest for availability first and if found, they send directions to the patron on how they can access themselves.

For dissertations not available from other libraries but available from Proquest in hardcopy only, the staff will purchase an unbound photocopy directly from Proquest. This service is currently available for faculty requests only.

For copies of USC dissertations requested by USC and non-USC members,the USC Library offers a dissertation delivery service. This service is managed by IDD staff member Travis Goode (tgoode@usc.edu) and the reproduction is currently outsourced. The department now offer both unbound and PDF formats and the charges range between $30-40. Hardcopies are shipped UPS Ground and electronic copies are either burned on CD or posted on server for 5 days.

For pre-1994 USC dissertations not found in HOMER, the library staff check a master microfilm file for availability and if found, they send the microfilm to the vendor for reproduction.

IEEE titlee progress: live through the E-Journals link on the E-Resources page!

I am pleased to announce that IEEE titles can be searched through the E-Journals link on the E-Resources page or directly from http://www.usc.edu/ejournalsatoz with the help of our e-resource department.

Here are details:

IEEE journal title improvements
- All IEEE titles listed will have links
- All titles will be in a standard format making normalization easier
- Conference proceedings titles will be uniquely identified, by year or conference number
Links for IEEE titles will be in a standard, consistent format based on the Publication Number
IEEE Electronic Library Online, will be re-named, IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL), to match the package name offered by IEEE

Where are your S&E librarians? All over campus and online!

You can find us at our S&E Reference desk (SSL 100) Mon.-Thurs. afternoons
You can CHAT with us Monday and Wednesday evenings online
We staff the Leavey Library Information Commons desk at least 1x/week
We teach lots of library instruction sessions, especially for: Writing 140, ALI 230 and 231, Writing 340 for Engineers, and for Health Sciences; usually at Leavey
We all staff the Doheny Library reference desk at least one weekend/semester each
We all staff the Ask-a-Librarian email reference service
We are part of the team providing library service at The Writing Center in Taper Hall
We have a group in Facebook!
